Bush Just Doesn’t Get It
I watched the president fumble through his speech tonight and still don’t get the rationale behind sending 20,000 more troops to Iraq. It’s like treating a stab wound with a Band-Aid (TM).
And instead of looking for a way out of a mess that he and his cronies lied to get us into in the first place (including Pa. State Rep. Steve Barrar — my opponent in the 2004 election — who has so much blood on his hands that it seems unlikely any skin is visible), now Bush wants to expand the war to include Iran and Syria, two countries with formidable militaries and one with nuclear weapons.
This is madness. Thank God, the American people have finally gotten it. Congress seems to get it. But George W. Bush doesn’t seem to get it.
So it falls in our hands to do something. No, I’m not embracing violence or illegal activity. But we need to send a stronger message to this president who is boss — we are. The time has come to organize a general strike, shut this country down for a day of discussion and stop the economy dead in its tracks. Only this, which will certainly get the attention of the corporate types who have served as Bush’s enablers, can make a meaningful change in our policy. The people must speak.
Strike for peace.
Amen, brother! I couldn’t agree more!
Succinctly put. It does seem that we are on a crooked and ridiculous road.
Mike, it seems you are indeed the one who doesn’t “get it”.
What Bush outlined last night was a PLAN. An actual plan. He admitted to mistakes, and that he needed to change course, and he has. If you’d have actually listened to the speech, as painful as it is to listen to the guy talk, you’d have seen he followed the Brehmer report that only weeks ago those like you were embracing, and he outlined a comprehensive plan to get the Iraqi government to start standing on their own. And to involve the civilian population in their own future.
He did not say a damn thing about “expanding” anything to Iran and Syria, he said we’d had enough of them feuling the insurgency in Iraq, which is true and not debatable. And that we’d not tolerate it anymore, and would act accordingly WITHIN IRAQ to end their aid to the killers who roam free and blow up school buses full of children. We aren’t blowing them up, Iranian backed militias are.
Good luck trying to stop the economy, half the people in your party depend on their regular hand outs to live, they’ll thank you for the loss in unearned wages, I’m sure.
Sad, sad to see people who couldn’t see that speech, as uneloquently spoken as usual, as the good plan it is. I swear, Bush could pull every troop out tomorrow and give the world a cure for cancer, and ya’ll would still bag on the guy.
Jenn,
It’s pretty like, ol’ Bushie, you just hear what you want to hear. He plainly threatened Iran and Syria. And let’s be honest, we’ve been at this for nearly four years, at the cost of 3,000 U.S. lives — and failed to do anything about Al Queda, except make it more dangerous. When guys like Sam Brownback are killing this “plan” it seems that you and Bushie are among the small group that doesn’t get it.
But thanks for stopping by and helping to make my point.
Yes, Bush threatened Iran and Syria in his speech. I agree you only heard what you wanted to hear, Jenn. It’s really sad. How come you still support Bush so much? I laughed at his speech. The man is a moron. Wake up people and yes do something before it’s too late!! Great post, Mike.
Jenn…. a GOOD plan?!? Are you kidding?? PLEASE tell me that I can quote you on that so that I can rub it in your face a few months from now when it is finally realized by you and those like you that this is nothing but warmed-over crap from the same unsuccessful plans of the past.
Unfortunately, those who die as a result of this plan will not have the same opportunity.
As for Iran, you must not follow the news. We actually attacked Iran last night. Moments after Bush gave his address:

Bush not only DOESN’T get it, he will NEVER get it, and we’re well to be rid of him and his brand of hawk republicanism. Watching him speak, you would think that it is The World According To George Bush,” subtitled “From God’s Lips to His Ears,” lol. Only, it’s NOT lol, it’s damn serious business. And not only is the world getting a little (a lot?) tired of being dictated to by the likes of this fumblemumblegobbledygook speaking mannequin of a President…so are the American people.
He’s a walking anachronism, a man out of time, place and options.
